Better late than never

Should have posted this several weeks a go.

I'm still working on my Advent Mystery Shawl. I"m about 9 rows from a bind off. Hope to make that possible by the end  of the month.

A Homespun House Mystery Advent KAL
Two of my Knit Night buddies and I are working on Nefertiti Shawl. One friend knitted hers with lace weight and mohair, and motivated us to try our hand at this great pattern. I'm working my shawl with Yarn Bee, Hint of Glam  from Hobby Lobby. The Colorway is Teal. I started the shawl with my Chaigoo Bamboo size 3 needles. This yarn is a loosely spun yarn and I was having a lot of issues with the yarn splitting. I changed to size 3 Karbontz by Knitters Pride and now the splitting is less of an issue.

Knitting Finish and WIP

My knitting has picked up a lot. Still having trouble making myself sit and blog about it. Lately I've just been sharing on IG. A few quick pics not as many words. Easy-peasy.

Anyway since I finally made it here.
I'm currently working on Nefertiti Wrap by Miriam Felton. I'm using Hobby Lobby's Glint of Glam in Teal. Knitting with Knitter's Pride Karbonz #3. I started this in January with 2 friends. I'm using this to learn knitting from charts and trying out all the features of KnitCompanion. This baby has a total of 19 charts! I've made it to chart #9. I will be sitting taking some time today to figure out why I'm having issues with the last potion of row #3. Fingers crossed.

The designer has provided both written instructions and charts. This is my first attempt at knitting a project strictly from charts. So far with the help of KnitCompanion, I've been doing very well. My biggest regret is the yarn I choose. This yarn while very nice, with the incorporated luxe, is very loosely twisted which makes it all to easy to split the yarn. With any number of yarn overs (yo), knit togethers (tog), and slip, slip, knits (ssk) it makes for some slow knitting.
If/when I finish this I would like to made another in a lace weight yarn. Yes, its official I'm off my rocker.

The Homespun House Advent MKAL is finished and off the needles. There a few challenges with one but it's done and blocked, ready to be worn.

Advent Knitting

Today is the 15th this month and year are almost over. I managed to get more knitting done than ever before, blogging not so much. I will try to gather my pictures and post some of the things I completed this year.

I signed up for 2 Advent calendars this year. I started the Jimmy Beans Yarn Craftvent 2019, but haven't even finished Day 1. I will get it later.

My Lola Bean Advent Calendar is for Mini skeins, so no knitting. It was a little late since AC was sick so the mailings were a little late. Well mine finally arrived and it was well worth the wait. Here are the first 15 days.

I'm still on Week One of The Homespun House Advent MKAL, but I'm loving the yarns I have received so far.

Yarn and Thread

We are really in the 4th month of the year. Well that would be halfway through the 4th month. Easter seemed so far away and now it's only 7 days away.
Right now I'm working on a C2C baby blanket that I wanted to present by Easter. I'm working toward the last corner but I'm not sure I'll be finished and have it blocked in the time I have left. 😓

This weekend I started working on Smash again. I decided to go with the purple Hawthorne Tonal, Eugene, instead of the more red tonal that  I bought. The Eugene seems to match the purple specks better.

I've joined the Ice Drop Addicts FB group. I've completed a few and 2 pop cap Ice Drops. I would like to work to one-per-week. I haven't made it there yet. There are do many variations, I'd like to have one each for myself as well as enough done for Christmas gifts. Fingers crossed.

I've been looking for a way to wear/display my enamel pins. Thanks to All About Ami, I think I have the perfect solution. I'm using her instructions to make a liner for a see through bag. The first base I started  was a little to big, (I think my bag is smaller than hers.) so I decreased the number of stitches on my second try. Fingers crossed that it won't be too small.
I'm using the recommended 24/7 Lion Brand yarn, but I'm using Aqua instead of the Ecru.

Thanks for your visit.

Hello 2018

Hello 2018
I started my Jimmy Bean MKAL on the first of January. Now this was really their Craftvent Calendar from 2017. The MKAL was a mystery that started the first of December, 2017 with the project to be completed by 24th December. I didn't find out about this opportunity until after the 15th. By the time my Craftvent Calendar arrived it was a week before I left for my vacation. Hence the 1st January start. I try to work on this at least once weekly. I've finally made it to color 4. Three more color sections to go and I'll have a shawl.

Craftvent Calendar 2017

I am so ready for Spring!! Trying to master, okay, get more comfortable with double points; sooooo  I decided to try my hand at an Easter Egg. The pattern is free on the blog of Arne and Carlos.

I'm using some Lion Brand BonBons for my eggs.
Needles: 3 (3.25mm)

I started a crochet project from Living With Beautiful Crochet. The project is displayed in the book as placemat but I plan to use it on top a piece of furniture. I'm using DMC Cebelia sz 20 with size 9 crochet hook.

Happy making,

Gwen

Hello again!

Hi All, It's 2017 and I didn't post anything to this blog in 2016. Hope to do better this year.

I did accomplish a few things last year, some of them may make an appearance here later. Over the holidays, I picked up my tatting shuttle again and make these two sets.

A pair of earrings:
Silk thread from Japan
Design from Flower Motif Tatting Lace
Silk thread: Dakoru
Design from: NHK's ETV educational channel, Japan's educational TV

A second pair and a pendant. The chain is blue and white strung beads.

This is the Boom shawl knitted with Caron Cake, Red Velvet using size 10 needles. The shawl pattern is a free download from Ravelry. The yarn from Michaels.

In November 2016, I was fortunate to attend the Houston Quilt Show for the first time. What a treat, oh what temptations! I could resist signing up for Shabby Fabrics BOM, Wall Hanging Club! The first of the 12 monthly kits arrived last week. Yesterday I attached the borders and positioned the pieces then ironed them in place. My decorative stitching on the machine isn't what I would like it to be, so I may wind up doing the embellishment by hand. Not really what I want to do, but I'm afraid to ruin my block.

A Month of Crafting Goodness

Although I haven't posted here in awhile, September turned out to be a very crafty month. I was able to attend The Palmetto Tatters Guild's Tat Days. Fun times, getting together with  friends old and new, taking classes and sharing the love of a hobby. I also attended the Georgia Fiber Fest, held at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center. Capping the month off was a visit to the "The Workes of Our Hands", A Sampler Exhibit of the Magnolia Sampler Guild held at Bulloch Hall, Roswell, GA.

Our Tat Days goody bag and some of it's contents:

I make 2 of Marie's Angels using a variation in the long chain forming the skirt. Marie calls it a hdd (half double double stitch) the first half of the stitch is worked normally then the second half is worked twice before making the flip. By working the second half twice the chain is more stable and doesn't twist as much. The Angel on the right, was found while flipping through Pinterest. I love the simplicity and form of this angel. She still needs blocking.

I managed to knit 2 cowls in September. I need to secure the bind off end and I will have two new items for the change in seasons.

KCT:Knit,Crochet,Tat

World Wide Knit in Public Week was a big success for my knitting group. I was able to attend 3 of the 5 events that were organized. I managed to complete 2 dishcloths and a small coaster. Both dishcloth patterns were from Knit Picks 52 Weeks of Dishcloths 2014 and the coaster was an online pattern that is crocheted.

Sugar and Cream Yarn

I wasn't able to meet my goal of finishing Round 4 of my Renulek's Spring Doily, last month but, I did get 1/2 of the round done and should be able to complete the other half soon.

On my needles now I have a baby blanket that I would love to finish before the baby shower, 1 August.

Wish me luck,
Gwen

February Week 1.5

My Snowflakes for February are Snowflake #4 from Festive Snowflakes and Ornaments.

I made a start on Jane's tat-a-long, Tat It and See 2015 and made it to Day 8. Though the 2015 TIAS was finished up over the weekend, I plan to  continue and finish mine as well. Up until the very end I though I would wind up with a blue bunny. As it turns out the TIAS was a pair of scissors. Now that all is revealed I have the blades done and need to add the handles.

My knitting has been on two projects. My version of the Purple Sweater by Jenifer Stark on Ravelry. I am doing mine in Vanna's Choice Yarn by Lion Brand. The sleeves are the next portion of my sweater that I need to work on. The pattern calls for long sleeves but I want to make 3/4 length sleeves, (well just below the elbow). Hopefully I can get 2 sleeves that match and have a nice taper. (LOL)

My second knitting project was to be a pair of oven mitts made with Sugar and Cream. Well mine will be Peaches and Cream because that's what I have on hand. My knit group is working on these as a Knit-a-Long. Since I am learning some new to me techniques, I will be sticking with the yarn I have already, My first choice of colors wasn't pleasing to me so after group on Monday I tink-ed the portion I had done. (tink- un-knitted, unraveled). Need to see how much I can get done before we meet again next week.

My first finish of 2015 is my shawl. I finished it on New Years Day, Over the weekend I blocked it, and here it is.

This year I am planning on taking the 25 Motif Challenge, and taking part in two stitching blog challenges, Halloween Ornies SAL 2015 and 2015 Stitching Smalls SAL. I am working on Snowflake #2  from Festive Snowflakes and Ornaments, by Barbara Foster. It would be so nice to make at least one of each snowflake in this book.

Knits and Tats

My shawl is very close to being finished. I am working on 'Harvey' from the book Sock-Yarn Shawls, by Jen Lucas. This is my first attempt at making a lace shawl. I pulled out my first 3-4 starts, before I got the hang of it. Then I figured out how to read a simple chart and learned the value of a life line, all the while learning how to read the stitches on the needle. These lessons should be invaluable in improving my knitting. I have about 6 more rows of the lace pattern then the final border, after which will be the lesson in blocking.
Here is my progress (1/2 of the shawl):
Harvey
Sock-Yarn Shawls
Patons: Krory Socks FX
Color:57210

I managed to complete several sets for earrings, and a pendant that I used for Christmas gifts. The ds count was the same but the threads were different and so was the final size. I used several size 20, Lizbeth Threads and some DMC Fil argent, Art. 285, the beads were seed beads from my stash.

The Knitting Bug

I can hardly believe the date of my last post to this blog. It didn't feel as if I had been away that long. I know I've worked on a few things since July. Maybe I can find the pictures and do a 2014 round up later this month.

Last month I was required to work some very long hours. When I got home there wasn't much energy left for creativity. I did manage to knit a few items. They will be used for birthday and Christmas gifts. Most of the patterns used were from Ravelry.

Purple: Mobius, Vanna's Choice, 145 Eggplant
Mulberry Mix: Hat POP! , by Kristy Vine, Red Heart Super Saver
White : basic beanie, Bernat Deniumstyle
Scarf: The Big Easy Scarf by Lee Samsami Stein
Vanna's Choice, 101 Pink

The Mobius was an experiment. I wanted to use up some left over yarn from another hat I made, so I decided to try Cat Bordhi's Mobius Cast On. The other hat didn't make the photo shoot. It was hiding somewhere on the couch. The first row of the Mobius was a bit fiddly, but after that it was fun to watch it grow. For this first trial I simply knitted 4 rows then purled 4 rows until most of the yarn was gone then bound off. I have already added a few patterns to my wish list on Revelry, As soon as my new yarn arrives I will be deciding which one to try first.

I used Silfoxes Tatting stitch count to make this set. I haven't gotten the beads just right but I am happy with them and will be making a few more.
Lizbeth size 20, Color 633
Seed beads from stash
I need to finish my ends and add some findings to make a pair of earrings and a pendant.

Next post I hope to share the shawl I am working on.

Thanks for hanging in with me and continuing to stop by,
Gwen

February Already?

It just doesn't seem as if there are 24 hours in my days anymore. I must be losing time somewhere. If you find it please sent it back this way. Last week I picked up my knitting needles again and made this hat. It's a simple stockinette stitch worked in the round on size 9 circular needles. Knitting has almost been a struggle for me so I am very excited when I am able to finish a project no matter how simple.

My only tatting lately has been one lonely snowflake. The snowflake is from the Dover Publication Tatted Snowflakes by Vida Sunderman. Next to the snowflake are some small medallions (the center portion of the snowflake) that I plan to send to a friend. She saw me working on the snowflake and remarked that she would like to have one for a pendant.

Hopefully I will be able to post more often than monthly.
